About the University of Iowa Center for Advancement

Our Mission

Our mission is to advance the University of Iowa through engagement and philanthropy.

Our Role and Purpose

The UI Center for Advancement was formed by joining the UI Alumni Association and the UI Foundation to better serve our alumni and friends in the state and the region, throughout the country, and around the world. The UI Center for Advancement is a nonprofit IRC Sec. 501(c)(3) organization, serving as the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the University of Iowa. As an independent organization, we work to strengthen the university by connecting with alumni, friends, and supporters.

Governance and Leadership

We are located in the Levitt Center for University Advancement and are governed by a volunteer board of directors. Our work is also guided by the volunteer Alumni Leadership Council, which serves as the university’s alumni advisory body and includes alumni representing areas across campus.

Our Commitment to Engagement

We are dedicated to engaging everyone who loves the University of Iowa—alumni, fans, patients, art lovers, students, parents, and friends—through programming, events, and opportunities to give back. Creating opportunities for everyone to stay engaged is at the core of the University of Iowa Center for Advancement’s commitment to advancement.

Our Commitment to a Welcoming Community

We strive to create an environment where all members of the Hawkeye community feel valued and respected. Through our communications, programming, outreach, and workplace culture, we foster connections and ensure that everyone has opportunities to participate and contribute.

ILLUSTRATION: Jimmy Losasso Coffee shops are integral to Iowa City?s identity as a UNESCO City of Literature, serving as vibrant hubs of connection and creativity where students and community members can settle in with a good book, focus on homework, or kindle friendships. Although some past favorites have closed over the years, several shops owned by University of Iowa alumni remain dedicated to keeping Iowa City caffeinated. Recently, we asked Hawkeyes on Facebook to name their favorite Iowa City coffee spots, both past and present. Their responses showed just how much UI students and alumni love a good cup of joe.
